ETIAS for East Timorese citizens

🇹🇱 East Timorese passport holders currently enjoy visa-free entry to the Schengen area (up to 90 days in any 180). That doesn't change — but once ETIAS launches (expected late 2026), you'll first need a quick online travel authorisation, like the US ESTA or UK ETA.

What East Timorese travellers need to know

What it is: an online pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors — not a visa. Most applications are approved in minutes.

Cost & validity: €20 (free under 18 / over 70), valid 3 years or until your passport expires, multiple trips.

When: launch is expected in the last quarter of 2026, with a grace period before it becomes mandatory around April 2027. Dates are set by the EU and can shift — always check the official EU ETIAS site ↗.

What doesn't change: your 90-day short-stay allowance and the 90/180 rule — track your days here. Border crossings also now use the biometric Entry/Exit System (EES) instead of passport stamps.

Before you travel

Before your next European trip:

When applications open, apply only via the official EU site or your airline's verified process. Onward links the official source first, always.
