Where Onward's data comes from
Every verdict you see is generated from open datasets, refreshed weekly, and linked back to the official source. Here's the full pipeline — and its honest limitations.
The visa matrix
The core dataset covers 199 passports × 198 destinations (39,402 passport-destination pairs), derived from the community-maintained passport-index dataset (MIT licence). It refreshes automatically every week; each page shows its data date (currently 2026-07-06). A weekly diff powers the recent-changes feed and email alerts.
Everything else
Safety advisories: Government of Canada. Country facts: mledoze/countries (ODbL). Climate: Open-Meteo. Public holidays: Nager.Date. Exchange rates: Frankfurter (ECB). Geography: Natural Earth. Proof-of-onward-travel data: airline practice under IATA rules + government entry pages, curated by hand. ETIAS/EES dates: EU announcements.
Limitations (read this)
Community data can lag official announcements by days. Advisories, fees and allowances change without notice. Onward is general information for categories of traveller — never advice on your individual case — and every page links the official source to confirm. If you spot an error, tell us: hello@onwardpassport.com — corrections ship in the next weekly build.
